Mercedes SLS AMG engine for sale
Product Overview
For sale is a complete Mercedes SLS AMG 6.2-litre V8 engine, code 159.980, at zero kilometres — never installed, never run. This is the hand-built M159 naturally aspirated V8that powers the Mercedes SLS AMG, producing 420 kW (571 horsepower) and 650 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm — a specification that represents the absolute peak of naturally aspirated V8 development in the modern era of AMG engineering.
The engine is delivered as shown in the photographs and is in factory-new condition throughout. At zero kilometres, all internal components — forged crankshaft, titanium connecting rods, flat-plane crankshaft, individual throttle bodies, and all ancillaries — are in the same condition as when the engine left AMG’s Affalterbach facility. This level of condition in an SLS AMG engine is extraordinarily rare on the secondary market.

About the Mercedes-AMG M159 Engine
The Mercedes-AMG M159 is one of the most celebrated naturally aspirated V8 engines of the modern performance car era. Developed specifically for the SLS AMG — Mercedes-AMG’s first complete in-house production car — the M159 is a direct evolution of the M156 6.2-litre V8 used in the C63, E63, and S63 AMG road cars, but re-engineered to AMG’s highest specification with components and tolerances that reflect its supercar application.
The engine features a flat-plane crankshaft — an unusual choice for a production road car V8 — that contributes to the M159’s distinctive sound and its ability to rev cleanly to 8,000 rpm. Individual throttle bodies for each cylinder provide the direct, immediate throttle response of a racing engine, with power building linearly and relentlessly to the redline in a way that turbocharged alternatives cannot replicate. Titanium connecting rods reduce reciprocating mass and allow the engine to sustain its 8,000 rpm limit with confidence across sustained track use.
At 571 horsepower from 6.2 litres without any forced induction, the M159 produces more power per litre than most turbocharged engines of comparable displacement — a testament to the precision of its internal specification, induction system, and calibration. It was, at the time of the SLS AMG’s launch, the most powerful naturally aspirated engine fitted to a production road car that was not a supercar in the conventional sense — and it remains one of the most extraordinary expressions of what large-displacement natural aspiration can achieve.
The SLS AMG was produced between 2010 and 2014 in coupé and roadster form. With production now concluded, the M159 is a finite, non-replaceable engine — no current or future AMG model will carry a naturally aspirated unit of this specification. A zero-kilometre example is among the rarest and most significant AMG engine finds available anywhere in the world.
Ideal For
- Mercedes SLS AMG owners (C197 coupé or R197 roadster) requiring an engine replacement following failure, accident damage, or competition use
- Mercedes-AMG and supercar specialist workshops sourcing a zero-km M159 for a customer replacement or rebuild programme
- Insurance and high-value accident repair specialists requiring a factory-new, correct-specification M159 for an SLS AMG repair
- Collectors and enthusiasts acquiring a new-condition M159 as a significant component of AMG’s naturally aspirated legacy
- Competition builders using the SLS AMG platform for track, time attack, or GT racing who require a zero-hours base engine
- Buyers who understand that this engine will not be produced again and wish to secure a new-condition example before none remain
