Porsche 964 RSR engine for sale
Product Overview
For sale is an exceptional Porsche 964 RSR 3.9-litre “Slide” engine producing 257.85 kW (391 hp) and 430 Nm of torque, currently in very good working order. This is a fully built, competition-specification flat-six prepared to the highest standard — featuring slide throttle bodies, a bored-out 104mm block, RSR cylinder heads and camshafts, and managed by a Pectel SQ6 DME — with a full wiring harness included.
The engine has been recently opened, inspected, and reassembled with new seals throughout. During this work, the bearings, oil pump, and crankshaft were replaced by specialists at RUF and Porsche Classic — an exceptional level of provenance that provides complete confidence in the quality and integrity of the rebuild. Full photographic documentation of the engine work and a dyno sheet are available on request.

Recent Work & Rebuild Documentation
The engine has recently been removed, fully opened, and inspected before being reassembled with new seals throughout. During this process, the following critical components were replaced:
- All bearings — replaced to ensure correct clearances and long-term reliability at competition RPM
- Oil pump — replaced with a 930 Turbo specification unit, providing high-volume lubrication appropriate for sustained high-output use
- Crankshaft — replaced during the rebuild by RUF and Porsche Classic, ensuring the rotating assembly is in first-rate condition
- All seals — renewed throughout during reassembly
Technical Specification Detail
This engine represents a fully developed competition specification built around the M64.01 engine block, bored to 104mm to achieve the 3.9-litre displacement associated with the RSR platform. The compression ratio of 11.3:1 is calibrated for high-octane competition fuel use, maximising thermal efficiency and mid-range torque delivery across the rev range.
The 964 RSR cylinder heads and RSR camshafts with 4.5mm lift provide the airflow and valve event profile required to support 391 horsepower in naturally aspirated form — a specification that requires precise machining, correct port geometry, and properly matched induction. The slide throttle bodies — the defining characteristic of this “Slide” engine designation — replace the conventional butterfly throttle arrangement with individual sliding throttle elements, providing instantaneous throttle response and eliminating the flow restriction inherent to a butterfly valve at high lift and RPM.
Engine management is handled by a Pectel SQ6 DME — a professional motorsport engine control unit widely used across historic and contemporary Porsche competition applications, offering full programmability, data logging capability, and compatibility with a wide range of competition fuels and configurations. The full wiring harness is included, making this a ready-to-install package from an electrical standpoint.
The use of a 930 Turbo oil pump — a known and well-regarded upgrade for high-output naturally aspirated 964 competition builds — ensures adequate lubrication volume and pressure at the elevated RPM and oil temperatures encountered in circuit racing.
Ideal For
- Porsche 964 RSR circuit racing and historic competition builds
- GT and touring car series eligible for RSR-specification machinery
- High-specification 964 track car builds requiring a proven, documented engine
- Teams and builders seeking RUF or Porsche Classic provenance in a competition engine
- Collectors and restorers rebuilding or maintaining a 964 RSR to full competition specification
- Any Porsche 964-based project requiring maximum naturally aspirated output
