Porsche 914/6 GT race engine for sale

Product Overview

For sale is a Porsche 914/6 GT 2.0-litre race engine, Type 911/03, serial number 6110043 — built to FIA Historic Group 4 specification by renowned air-cooled Porsche specialists Greatworth Classics of Greatworth, near Banbury. The engine was constructed for a 914/6 GT race car project that was sold part-completed before the engine could be fitted or run in the car, leaving this unit unused and available in its fully built state.

Following its build, the engine was taken to BS Motorsport — one of the United Kingdom’s most highly regarded historic Porsche race engine builders — for an initial commissioning and setup session on their dedicated dynamometer. The engine was run to 90% throttle and RPM, performed very well throughout, and presents no oil leaks. Build photographs are available and can be supplied to serious buyers on request.

The engine is based on an excellent 1971 911T crankcase brought fully up to S specification, featuring a comprehensive list of new, uprated, and competition-specific components throughout. It is a straight fit into any 914/6 engine bay and, with a change of tinware, is compatible with the 904, 906, and other mid-engine Porsche configurations. 911 headers and back box are also available separately if required.

Ongoing support available. Greatworth Classics are available, at extra cost, to fit this engine to your car and set it up for race, rally, or road applications. Trackside technical support is also available. Please enquire directly for details.

Build Provenance & Dyno Testing

Greatworth Classics are a well-established and highly respected specialist in the preparation, restoration, and racing of historic air-cooled Porsche vehicles. Based near Banbury, they have accumulated considerable expertise in building competitive engines for the 911, 914/6, and related platforms across a wide range of historic racing and road applications. The level of component specification and preparation evident in this build reflects their thoroughness and depth of knowledge in this field.

Following its build, the engine was taken to BS Motorsport for initial commissioning and setup. BS Motorsport are one of the foremost authorities on historic Porsche race engine preparation in the United Kingdom, with a strong track record of building and supporting engines in FIA-regulated competition at national and international level. The engine was run to 90% of throttle and RPM on BS Motorsport’s dynamometer, performed without issue throughout the session, and showed no oil leaks at the conclusion of the test. The engine has not been run since.

Build photographs available. A full set of build photographs documenting the engine’s construction at Greatworth Classics is available and can be supplied to any serious buyer on request. This photographic record provides independent verification of the components used and the standard of workmanship throughout the build.

Fitment & Compatibility

This engine is a direct, straight fit into a Porsche 914/6 engine bay in its current configuration — the 930 lower valve covers have been specifically clearanced for the 914 bay, and the Mittlemotor race headers and back box are configured for the 914/6 GT installation.

With a change of tinware, the engine is also compatible with the Porsche 904, 906, and other mid-engine configurations that accept the Type 911 flat-six. 911-specification headers and back box are also available separately for buyers intending to use the engine in a 911-based vehicle.

  • Porsche 914/6 GT FIA Historic Group 4 circuit racing
  • Historic GT racing eligible for Type 911/03 specification engines
  • Porsche 904 or 906 restoration and racing builds
  • Mid-engine historic Porsche competition projects requiring a correct flat-six
  • Collectors and competitors seeking a fully built, documented, never-raced FIA-spec engine
  • Buyers requiring ongoing specialist support from Greatworth Classics for fitting, setup, and trackside assistance

Location & Specialist Support

The engine is currently located at Greatworth Classics, Greatworth, near Banbury, where it can be inspected by appointment. Greatworth Classics are available to fit the engine to your car and set it up for race, rally, or road use at extra cost, and offer ongoing technical and trackside support for buyers who wish to make use of their expertise. This level of direct specialist continuity from the original builder is a significant practical advantage for any buyer not based in the immediate area or without in-house Porsche flat-six expertise.
